Gerry Anderson is won over by his E-Class

It may be unable to fly through the sky or go underwater but TV producer Gerry Anderson is still impressed by his very own supercar.

Gerry has enjoyed three years of trouble free motoring in his Mercedes-Benz E-Class but fortunately none of the escapades encountered by the craft that shaped his legendary career in the early sixties.

The E320 CDI - acquired from Mercedes-Benz of Reading - is a far cry from the land, sea and air vehicle of the 'supercar' series, which pioneered Gerry's sophisticated puppetry technique utilised in his more famous shows such as Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. Nevertheless Gerry has been won over by the technology and features onboard his Mercedes.

'The operating system works brilliently and I think it's a very clever car - one that I have become quite dedicated to,' admited Gerry.
After recently completing a new series of Captain Scarlet, Gerry and his E-Class are continuing to make the daily trip between his Berkshire home and Pinewood Studios, where he is working on his latest production, Deep Sky, which will focus on travel at the speed of light and will be set in the 21st Century.

'My E-Class and I have covered 600 miles per week on that journey for the past three years without any problems,' he said. 'The car handles well, offers great acceleration and superb economy - in fact I have yet to come across a car of similar size that can match its performance.'

But while the E-Class is perfect for Gerry, he thinks the model would be a little too hot to handle for his most famous car-driving character - despite it being one of the most popular vehicles for chauffeur vehicles.

'It is too fast for Parker at his age although I am sure he would have liked to have got behind the wheels in his younger days,' he smiled.
