 | The Ridgeway Group’s story has been one of continual growth and expansion and is now ranked as the 26th Largest Motor Retail Group in the UK by the Automotive Magazine [November 2007].
The business was first established in 1997 with two Volkswagen and one Audi retailer, Volkswagen and Audi in Newbury and a Volkswagen outlet in Wantage, Oxfordshire. In 1999 another exciting brand and franchise was added to Ridgeway’s portfolio when Jewson Skoda [Oxford] was purchased. This was followed two years later with the addition of Volkswagen retailer Ridgeway Reading in November 2001.
In 2004, the Ridgeway Group opened a brand new state-of-the-art Vehicle Preparation Centre in Greenham, Near Newbury and in the same year that the company secured Preferred Partner Status from both Volkswagen and Audi.
In October 2005 the second Audi Centre was acquired by the Group in Oxford and then, in March 2006, the company opened the doors to the Group’s new Bodyshop operation.
In December 2006, Ridgeway announced the acquisition of the Pentagon Group. This added the Mercedes-Benz and smart Passenger Car Market Area encompassing the cities of Chichester, Portsmouth, Southampton and Winchester. The company also represents Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep in Portsmouth, Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles (Truck and Van) and Mitsubishi FUSO franchises which are held in Poole, Portsmouth, Fareham, Southampton and Andover.
The expanded Ridgeway Group headed up by Chairman, David Newman and Chief Executive Officer, John O’Hanlon employs over 700 staff and is dedicated to offering customers the highest levels of quality, both in product and services.
In October 2008 the Ridgeway Group won a place in the Sunday Times Top Track 250.
This prestigious survey (sponsored by both HSBC and PWC) list’s Britain’s biggest mid-market private companies.
