 | | Even with one of the most spacious load capacities in its class, the ability to tow heavy loads will still prove invaluable for a multitude of tasks. Setting yet another benchmark in its segment, the C-Class Estate has raised the bar with its immense towing capacity of 1,800 kg braked, and 750 kg unbraked.
Safety is paramount when towing, hence the ESP® system has Trailer Stability Assist in-built as standard. This automatically detects the presence of a trailer - big or small - without the need for additional trailer sensors. If 'fishtailing' occurs when driving, the Trailer Stabilisation Function will apply the brakes, individually, to the front wheels of the towing vehicle, reducing the swerving motion and removing the threat of danger. During severe fishtailing, the engine torque is throttled back and the brakes applied to each of the towing vehicle's wheels, quickly reducing the speed below the critical threshold. For driver safety, however, the ESP® system takes priority when towing, ensuring that its corrective brake commands can override those of the Trailer Stabilisation Function at any time. |
