Over 400 customers and guests watched the dramatic launch of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class at Mercedes-Benz of Milton Keynes on 11th June, The launch was attended by the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Euan Henderson and a fundraising event for MK Snap was launched and will continue until the end of June.
Speaking about the new car Managing Director Warren Brearley said “This is the ninth generation of the E Class and it marks a very special time in the history of the marque. Ever since Karl Benz introduced the very first production car, Mercedes-Benz has lived and breathed his philosophy: the best or nothing at all. How this is achieved is demonstrated by a progression of firsts. They include life-saving inventions like tension seatbelts, airbags and sandwich floors – and there are many, many more. I’m very pleased to be involved with a manufacturer that is still leading the way and striving to be the best. In the new E-Class Saloon and Coupe the Mercedes-Benz heritage, combined with innovative new technology, has produced two of life’s real pleasures. This is the car that stirs emotions and creates a heady mix of stylish design and sublime comfort.”
The car is very handsome indeed. It is powerful and good looking and is launched boasting a great package of innovative safety and energy saving features including
‘Attention Assist’. This Mercedes-Benz innovation analyses driver behaviour. It kicks in at speeds of 50+ mph and alerts the driver when fatigue might lead to loss of concentration. The alerts are both visual and audible to make doubly sure the driver gets the message!
‘Active Bonnet’ has been developed to activate in the event of an accident involving a pedestrian. A sensor is activated in the front bumper and raises the bonnet by 50mm. This creates an extra crumple zone above the engine to protect the individual as much as possible.
The new E-Class also features BlueEFFICIENCY technology.
It represents Mercedes-Benz commitment to innovating efficient and
economic solutions without compromising the spirit of luxury driving.
BlueEFFICIENCY makes the Mercedes-Benz our engines highly efficient, especially those with manual transmissions. The new E-Class 250 CDI Saloon, for example, delivers 204 horsepower, 53.3 mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 139g/km – outstripping rival BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 models dramatically. BlueEFFICIENCY vehicles are also intelligent enough to switch systems off when they aren’t needed, saving even more energy.
There was huge interest in the cars at the launch and during the weekend following. This is the car that will star at the Open University 40th anniversary celebrations on 27th June at the Milton Keynes Campus, alongside the new electric smart car in a celebration of motoring innovation staged by Mercedes-Benz of Milton Keynes.
