8 Incredible Reasons

to Choose an Official Workshop

The complex nature of our cars means it has never been more important to choose an Official Workshop to care for your vehicle. To illustrate this point, we kept a log over the last two months of Mercedes-Benz Hull and Lincolnshire customers who have taken their vehicle elsewhere and paid the price…..
Fault Mis-Diagnosis
1. Charge Air Cooler from a C32 AMG - saving £2,700. White smoke was coming out of the exhaust so the customer took the car to an independent garage where the fault was mis-diagnosed and a quote was given for £4,500. Customer then came to Mercedes-Benz Hull and Lincolnshire where the correct diagnosis was offered and charged at £1,800, saving £2,700.
Over-Charging
2. Ball Joint from an M-Class – saving £201. Customer could hear knocking so took the car to an independent garage who quoted £250 for the new part. Mercedes-Benz Hull and Lincolnshire supplied a complete shock absorber (parts only) for £49 saving the customer £201.
Lack of knowledge
3. Door Check Strap – saving £130. An independent dealership missed that the bolts needed tightening on the Door Check Strap when this car was serviced. When the wind caught the door, the strap broke, leaving the customer with a bill for £130.

4. Broken Spring – saving £200. This car was MOT’ed at another garage and only came to Mercedes-Benz Hull and Lincolnshire when it needed a bulb. As part of our service we offered a free vehicle health check and noticed the broken spring. The cost of the repair on this 8 year old vehicle was borne by Mercedes-Benz, saving the customer £200.

5. Clutch and Fly Wheel from a smart roadster – saving £400. Because this smart was serviced by an independent garage, they didn’t know that it was necessary to re-learn the clutch on every service. Although the customer saved £200 on the service, the cost of repairing what they missed was £600!
Customer Awareness
6. Brake Disc – saving Priceless. Mercedes-Benz Hull and Lincolnshire recommended this customers’ brake discs were replaced, the customer said ‘no’, until we showed him the state of his current discs!

7. Timing Chain from an ‘R’ Reg SLK-Class – potential saving £4,500. This car hadn’t been serviced in 50,000 miles. At 2pm on Christmas Eve, the chain exploded leaving the customer with a bill for a new engine costing up to £4,500.

8. Piston from a C-Class – potential saving £12,000. A customer forgot to put some oil into his car, the piston exploded and caused £12,000 worth of damage.
