 | A key member of the after sales team at Mertrux, Nottingham, has won national recognition for his product knowledge and the quality of service he provides to customers and colleagues alike.
Parts Supervisor John Wheatcroft was named Hero of the Year and ‘First Among Equals’ Parts Specialist of the Year in the manufacturer’s Everyday Heroes reward and recognition programme for commercial vehicle after sales staff.
He beat more than 3,000 parts and service staff from dealerships across the UK to pick up the award from Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle after sales chiefs.
John began his career in the motor trade as an apprentice technician in a local garage, leaving several months later when he decided that this was not for him. He then joined a local motor factor, where he worked for seven years, first as a telephone sales assistant and eventually as a branch manager.
John joined the three-pointed star in 1990, as a junior in the parts department at car dealer B&K Thomas, later Mercedes-Benz of Nottingham. He worked his way up to become parts supervisor then parts manager, before leaving in 2003 to join Mertrux as parts supervisor.
“I enjoy the day to day challenges of the job,” says John. “I like dealing with customers, helping them to find the right parts and getting their vehicles back on the road.”
John has been an active participant in the Everyday Heroes scheme since he joined Mertrux. “It’s excellent and fosters a strong team spirit among colleagues, as well as helping to build your product knowledge,” he explains.
John is married with five grown-up children and lives in Aspley, Nottingham. An avid motorcycle fan, he rides an Aprilia RSV1000R. He passed his Advanced Motorcycling Test last year and is a member of the Nottingham Advanced Motorcyclists Group, who now hopes to undertake further training to become an observer for the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
John’s award caps a great year for Mertrux, which recently beat off the challenge of 21 other dealers nationwide to win the Mercedes-Benz Service 24h Dealer Team of the Year award for the quality of its emergency roadside repair and recovery service.
Mertrux was also a runner-up in the Dealer Service Team of the Year category, while its Mansfield depot also made the final three in the Mercedes-Benz ‘We Take Care’ Dealer of the Year Award category, for customer care.
