Do you know your rights,

following any accident?

Q: Do I need to get three different estimates for the repair?

A: No, it is a myth that three estimates are required. Your insurance company request this to choose the cheapest quote. Why would you compromise safety and quality for the sake of cost?

Q: Can I choose which repairer fixes my vehicle?

A: Yes, it is your legal right to demand where your vehicle is repaired. We will even provide a class A courtesy car if the accident was your fault whilst yours is in for repair. Why settle for anything less?
And if it wasn’t your fault?
Q: Am I entitled to a similar replacement vehicle, whilst mine is off the road?

A: Yes, if the accident was not your fault, and you can prove a need for a replacement vehicle similar to your own. The cost of which is recoverable from the at fault party, or from his/her insurance company, on a credit hire basis.

Q: What if the third party disputes liability?

A: You will initially be offered an indemnity policy for a nominal fee. This insurance covers you for the cost of legal expenses, hire charges & repair costs, should any of these not be recovered from the guilty party or his insurers.

Q: What if my vehicle is written off?

A: Your vehicle may be deemed un-economical to repair, usually if the cost of repairs is more than a certain percentage of the current value of the vehicle. You are entitled to stay in a replacement vehicle for a period of up to seven days after the write off cheque is received.

Q: Do I have to pay my insurance policy excess?

A: In some cases yes, however, this is fully recoverable. In all other cases by claiming off the at fault person(s) insurance direct, you will not be evoking your own insurance policy, and therefore will not have to pay the policy excess.

Q: Will my no claims bonus be affected?

A: It may be temporarily affected, depending on your own policy. However, on the successful completion of the claim, your no claims bonus will be re-instated.

Q: Can I claim for out of pocket expenses & depreciation costs to my vehicle?

A: Yes, any expenses arising as a result of the accident may be recovered. When your car has been involved in an accident, your vehicle may not be worth what it was before it was damaged, even after repair. You may be entitled to compensation for this loss in value.
